I fail to understand how the mention of people with disabilities is repeatedly left out of politicians’ and even presidents’ speeches. It doesn’t make sense when so much else is publicized to include us. The Americans with Disabilities Act signed by George HW Bush in 1990 is just one example that belies this inconsistency. The federal law shows that we with disabilities were (are) not ignored; and Bush saw a great need for inclusiveness here. Surely he is not the only one that does.
I’m really not complaining here–I’m just baffled. The inconsistency is so apparent, and the disability population is not so miniscule and easy to overlook! What’s wrong with this picture? I hate to say this like I take the ADA or more recent entitlements for granted, but I say this with no relevance to content: when anyone or anything is given such zig-zagged publicity, I am bemused.
