“Just another one of the miracles,” I found myself replying casually to my mom.

Technically, I don’t know how rare it is to have all of the ‘components’ of memory intact after a head injury–and especially a head injury as severe as mine–but I do know that out of every head-injured person I’ve known or seen, there is not one without some kind of memory problem, however slight. But I am fortunate to have a super memory even, where my subconscious and my conscious mind both function in remembering things  (sometimes separately. Then it’s  like drawing reality from a hat.)  I remember everything from my childhood (within reason, but better than my brothers and sisters) and even moments before my accident, and I recall fuzzy memories when I was drifting in and out of a coma for a couple of years afterwards. And I think I scared my friend Joel last year  when I remembered his dog’s name on only our second date.

Now, the record is straight, for all who read this blog. No more stereotypes or misinformation!
